Assignment 5_RobertM

First story idea, is to just take photos surrounding the gender norms society has placed on everyone as a whole. It’s a fragile topic, and I think it needs to be spoken about more. So for this story, i’d like to make it various smaller stories, with just two pictures, one of a person representing their expected gender norms, and another trying to shatter that. For example, my roommate took a feminine picture where clothes intended for girls, and then another with a more masculine pose wearing my clothes. I’m also pictured in a pink sweatshirt, with my roommates make up on, and then next to it in my normal clothes not wearing any make up as I usually do.

Another idea I have is taking photos of my trip to Toronto over spring break. I’m visiting a friend who’s going to school there, and I’d like to document my trip, especially “a night on the town”. I’d probably use my phone for this one, because I don’t trust myself with a camera in an unfamiliar city if I’m potentially not going to be sober.

  • You have a clear and compelling topic, and arresting photos. In a conventional narrative, the protagonist meets an obstacle or challenge, then a crisis, which changes him/her. Who or what changes in the story? While there is a gender bending change, what does this convey? Is the character playing? or shifting identities? if either, why? and with what consequences? What actually changes when one changes clothing? is there a story behind this change?

Can you add other images that could indicate a change in the character(s)? Can you develop some kind of plot more fully? How can images show the change?

Satisfactory, but could use more development
