  • I really think the staircase photograph is successful and interesting. The shapes of the railings and the colors make the photo more interesting than a very dull colored one would. I also like that the photo is centered but only horizontally this makes for a more dynamic photo. I almost think of this as a spiral down in emotion starting with colorful cheerfulness then winding down to deeper sadness or darkness. I would almost crop this so that the stairs on the left side were only half in the image removing the white wall completely. I think it would make the image far more dynamic than it currently is and it might follow the rule of thirds better.

I also really enjoy the railroad crossing photo as it is breaking away from a centered image but only slightly. The textures of the bridge are very rough and give the photo an almost old feeling. I think this would be interesting if you cropped the left-hand side of the photo out and had the railroad crossing sign on the far left side of the image. It would also make the bridge feel like its floating rather than being supported (If that makes sense). I also really think the angles you have captured with the bridge are really making this a successful photograph. I would also consider darkening the bottom half of the image so that the bottom and top would match in color to balance the image more.

  • I love the work with color in all of your photos. The shots of the staircase in particular contrast nicely as if you handpicked the color palette yourself. The last picture I also enjoy particularly for the unexpected shocks of green amidst the stark white of snow and the dull trees. These were very well done.

  • Content–mostly architectural (even outdoor bridge), but some landscape (even if framed by window plants.

Composition–all your photos have some focal point–RR sign, lighted window, reflecting windows, center of spiral stairs…you seem aware of drawing the eye into the photograph

Technique–careful framing, controlled exposure (with dark background in plant scene), attention to striking colors, insert in contrasts of texture, tone to color.

Aesthetics–colorful, playful, looking for unique angle
