  • These photos were taken on a Saturday evening at the Bangor Mall. This location was chosen in order to get off campus and find somewhere with steady foot traffic that wasn’t outdoors. I was surprised not only by the number of people who didn’t want their photo taken but the way people shyed away as soon as they saw the camera. When people saw that I had a camera with me they turned and made an effort not to be making eye contact, or seem inviting in any way. The more I thought about it, someones photo is very personal to them and by nature a camera is a device to collect it.

The two photos I got were both people at work which I think contributed to their willingness to be photographed. Of the “no’s” I got, several people were very adament and cursed me off.

  • I like how raw these photos are, from a portrait perspective. Neither of the two subjects were really posing for a photo, which makes it that much more personal. You start to get a sense of what they were feeling at that particular moment.
